Hello everyone regarding the wireless charge pad issues on the pre 2025 models with respect to the larger iPhones. I took delivery of my 2024 CX50 turbo in sprint of this year. From day one my wireless charge pad has not. Worked with my iphone 12 pro max. From reading the forums I gather this has been an issue for most who have a larger phone and in particular an iPhone max. Recently I have been working with my dealer to resolove this issue and I wanted to share with everyone here where that process is at.

Twice the dealer has changed my wireless charge pad for a brand new one and twice the charge pad fails to work with my phone despite it does charge other phones with out an issue. The last time I had the truck in for service I was given a brand new 2025 CX50 as a loaner. Much to my surprise the wireless charge pad in the 2025 CX50 50 works and charges my phone. I have taken this up with the dealer who has been working with mazda engineering to try and resolve the issue. The dealer is stumped because the part number for the 2025 charge pad and the previous model year charge pads is the same indicating that the part was never changed or updated. They dont know why my phone charges in the 2025 but not in the 2024. The conclusion the dealer is making is that although it doesn’t appear Mazda changed the charge pad it does appear that there is some difference in the 2024 and previous models and the 2025. The dealer feels this change is likely in the software in the 2025 models as there are several differences in the 2025 models infoTainment system and self driving capabilities.

The dealer has agreed that the next step is to take a charge pad directly from A 2025 model and install it into my 2024 to see if the 2025 charge pad works. If it doesn’t work then we know the problem has something to do with the software in the 2024 and earlier models and not the charge pads themselves.

My dealer is very decent and the shop foreman is working very hard to solve the issue With mazda technical support. I will keep you all up to date on the issue and if it becomes resolved I will let you know how the dealer resolved it so you can get yours fixed as well.

It is obvious Mazda knew about the issue and made some change to the 2025 models that resolved it. Why they haven’t made a service bulletin so others can get the issue resolved is beyond me.

I will keep everyone updated.

To add to this: My iphone 11 worked perfectly with the wireless charger unless it got too hot (only on multiple hour long road trips. My Iphone 16 pro doesn't work even a tiny bit. Hopefully the 2025 charger works in the 2024, and solves the issue. I am about ready to just give up and use the cable.

There is no reason these shouldn’t work or work only randomly with different phones. I will know next week if the 2025 charge pads works. If it doesn’t then the issues is in the software of the 2024 and previous models. The problem is bizarre. I dont understand why it works in the 2025 but they can’t make it work in a 2024. They dont have a clear answer yet From Mazda.

The charging pads are known not to work when NFC is switched on in the phone, and later model iPhones have no way to disable NFC, so that's why they don't (/didn't) work. Maybe Mazda has solved the NFC-on issue in the pads(?) I really hope they solve the overheat issue too.

Regarding the near field communication. My charge pad will charge other iPhones which are smaller In size. It wont however charge a max sized iPhone. If the charge pad is charging other iphones with out an issue I cant see how the problem could be with NFC which the iPhone doesn’t allow to be turned off. I will do a test. If I turn on the airplane mode that should turn off any radio communication signals coming from the phone it self. If it’s an NFC issue the phone should charge. I will update shortly.

I'm so ticked off that this feature does not work and did not realize it until after we purchased the vehicle. They should be informing people that are interested in buying these vehicles. Oh and by the way, the wireless charger does not work.....ugh!

....and by the way I have an the Pixel 7 pro, my wife has the latest Apple. If I turn off NFC it starts to charge and then turn a corner or drive a little down the road and the charging stops. I have to lift it up and set it down again (start charging) only to have it go off a mile down the road. My wife Apple works only if in the middle of the charger, which her phone is smaller so it tends to slide around they said, Mazda dealer said the only way around that is to purchase a bumper pad so it does not slide around....ugh! really!

It's my wife vehicle, so we are back to wires all over the place.....Mazda need to get their engineers to FIX this and come up with a valid solution!!!....I'm a little ticked off, yes. I don't expect to pay x-amount of dollars on a new CX-50 turbo only to have something not work, and the response is yeah, there is a problem with the wireless charger....uhhh sorry.....errrr.

On my personal 2024 Meridian Edition, the only way I can get my wireless charger to work is by turning off NFC. As I read above, they are correct that turning on Airplane mode doesn't mean NFC is off. Samsung Androids turn the NFC off and on from the drop-down menu. Once that is off, it works 100% of the time unless it gets too hot.
