Yes after our family has leased over 10 CX-5’s none needing front brakes under 40,000 miles
Our CX-50 now needs front pads and rotors at only 28,000 miles with only 2 mm remaining

We are shocked and will never lease another CX-50 after reading about all the premature break pad failures under 35,000 miles, Lou & Lisa
There is a North American notice sent to all Mazda dealers to replace the pads and modified dust cover for free on all 2024 CX50's....I did replace the pads with ceramic ones at my cost and see what happens....23rd of April 2025...I only had 24000 kl ...brutal.

Semantics are important. I wouldn't call it a recall. Recalls are done for safety concerns. While some may disagree, I don't think premature wear would be considered a safety concern.

It is a TSB (Technical Service Bulletin). Copy attached.

Correct. I think there is a lot of haggling that goes on behind the scenes with the NHTSA and the manufacturers. If the OEM says they will voluntarily do something, they can do a TSB etc.

I was particularly annoyed that mazda would not change out my sons rear brakes on his 2016 CX5. Here is that "not even silent recall". We still have not changed out the calipers, he just doesn't use the EPB (something we can't do on the CX-50)

My Cx50 was new July 23 ...I have 100000kms on it and this is the 5th time my brakes are gone and by gone i mean steel to steel.. I have always had it dealer maintained and this time they are only going to warranty the front pads..rotors ruined because they were steel to steel I only get 17000kms out of brakes. My steering wheel fell off, I have had sensor issues, lug nuts rusted one, tick in my fuel pump, oil leak, electrical ongoing gremlins and my brakes..positive note good in the snow..

That is shocking.
I would try using aftermarket components as the OEM components seem to be just rubbish in the rust belt states / provinces / countries.
Rockauto shows some fully coated discs, which might slow the corrosion down. Of course, the braking surface can't be coated, so that part will still rust.
The basic disc material is the same G3000 cast iron across many brands. I don't know any car maker that has stainless discs (they don't work well in the wet anyway based on my motorbike experience - need holes).
The pad materials can vary, some may work out to have longer life.
At least you can try different things to see if they are better and (being normal wear items) they won't damage the car.

My front brakes pads were down to 2mm after only 22,000 kms. My dealership replaced them at no cost under this TSB. Unfortunately, I'll have to go back as the dust plates are backorder.

BTW the dust plate design is something that TheCarCareNut had identified as potentially problematic during his first review of the CX-50.

Was just at my dealer for oil change at 21K miles and tech reported front pads are down to 4mm and rear at 5mm. I am beyond shocked. We are not hard on brakes (my Chevy Sonic went 60K mostly city miles before ending front pads, and my S Class Mercedes get 40K-50K plus on pads and we now live in the country)
Service advisor reports he has had to replace several front brakes at this mileage or even less.
Has anyone here seen a similar issue?
I only have 125 miles on my '25 CX50, so nothing like that (yet...)
My issue with the brakes is the soft pedal and lazy way the vehicle comes to a stop. There seems to be no real "bite" to the brakes and I feel I have to press way harder on the pedal to get any real deceleration. Has anyone else had this experience?

That's one of the first things I check on a test drive, brake pedal feel. Mine is not soft, nor do they grab. They are not performance vehicle level, but are good. Might want to have the dealer check it.

Yes! 21,000 miles. 2mm wear with uneven in rear. Replaced rear caliper, 4 pads, 2 rotors. Mazda covered the rear but not the front. We are OOP $615. Has anyone not been covered under warranty with this issue?

Between my family, wife and I l, we had 9 CX-5s and we have never replaced brake pads under45,000 miles. Today at our Mazda dealer in Manchester, NH our CX-50 with only 28,000 miles front pads only have 2mm left!?!?! From all the complaints we read online, I will be emailing a Mazda VP ASAP at US headquarters to pay for new pads and drums, pass this on, thanks Lou & Lisa B
21,000 on our CX-50. Had to replace 4 pads, broken rear caliper, rotors. Mazda paid or rear on warranty. But we got stuck with the front OOP $615. How did you make out? Who did you email?

21k on my cx50 2023 & front at 2mm, back 4mm. I’ve complained at every service of braking issues-takes too long & screeching. Never a word about brakes. Service only 100 miles ago. Braking malfunction alert today. Highway miles. Gentle driver. Isn’t this a bit early for worn pads? Manager said normal wear & tear
