Liftgate not opening

Last night at the airport I could not load luggage. NOTHING would open the liftgate. Engine is running. All doors are unlocked. Nothing obstructing the liftgate. Three beeps is all that happens with the button on the liftgate or the button on the keyfob. Had to put suitcase on the back seat or risk getting towed. So, today, car is parked in the driveway. Unlock all the doors, walk around to the tailgate, and push the button. Three beeps is all I get. When I push the button on the liftgate, I want it to open, and I don't want to be forced to use the stupid, over-sized keyfob. What am I missing?

My wife and I got our ‘23 CX-50 just over a year ago and we’ve had 5 instances where the tailgate wouldn’t open. I know people are saying to turn the ignition off/on, but that’s such a hassle when we’re in a parking lot and all we want to do at times is put our groceries away.

I mentioned this issue to the Mazda dealer during my last service and they said they never heard of this problem. I find that very hard to believe!

I’ve had the same thing happen, all different circumstances (car sat for a day, car sat for a half hour, etc.)The low battery light does come on so I’m thinking it’s a battery issue but the dealer won’t replace the battery because it’s okay when i bring it in. It’s annoying to have to start the car to open the lift gate and I think this is happening to a lot of CX-50 owners. I will post if I find a solution.

Anyone have any updates? Happened to me again twice within two days. I had to open my door and use the inner button on the driver’s side. Tried cycling on and off the ignition button without starting the car, that didn't work, but the inner button does. Weird that the remote won't tho.

All I can say is that it seems many of us have this issue. I reported it to my dealer(s). One gave me a printed algorithmic flow chart on how to use the liftgate but...ultimately, the issue is that it has a mind of its own. Happened again today when I was washing the car, ljftgate wouldn't open by fob, touching the switch on the liftgate, or pushing the button on the dash. Two reboots (start and stop car) fixed it. It's a minor deal to me but about once a month it goes SkyNet on me. I hope Mazda is reading these posts!

BTW love the vehicle, up to 35,000 miles in 14 months, just a couple annoyances like this one.

So I’ve had the car for 5 months and have had this issue twice. Both times the car was parked with the left wheels on pavement and the right wheels on grass, an inch or so lower than the pavement. So the car wasn’t perfectly level. Wonder if that has anything to do with it. Otherwise it hasn’t been a problem.

I am having the same problem. I have had this 2023 TPP for 2 months, and it has happened twice. I have taken it to the dealership and they said this car's power liftgate is very sensitive. They were not able to reproduce the problem. The service person seemed to suggest that it has to do with the car being on the slope. But of the two instances where it didn't work, only one of them was when I had the car on a small slope. The other time the car was parked on flat surface. Anyway, in both of instances, I managed to open the gate by turning the car on and off again. Some people said it's gotta do with the fuse of the PLG, but since this problem only happens intermittently, the fuse should not be blown, but maybe the connection is bad? Any thoughts?

A few things to consider 1 battery voltage is very important ask them to test your battery voltage if the battery is low it can fail to open the hatch normally this is no response though 2 if your car is parked on a slope it can to cause this issue 3 ask your dealer to recalibrate the dsc related sensors if these sensors are not correct they can trick the car in to thinking it's on a slow 3 striker alignment have your local dealer realign/tighten the stiker I have come across this 4 last but ask your local dealer to look at 09-024/24 - LIFTGATE OR TRUNK LID WILL NOT UNLOCK WHEN IGNITION IS OFF OR POWER LIFTGATE WILL NOT CLOSE I am a master tech for Mazda and I have come across this my self multiple times and can never duplicate I do these few checks with your local dealership I hope this helps every one
