The question of would you buy one again has been asked (and this isn't intended as a repeat of that thread), but what was it that made you choose it before it found its way into your driveway? Was it the Mazda name? Fact it is American built, on a line shared with Toyota?

For me (disclaimer, there is some rambling involved), it really was a bit of being in a pinch. I didn't have months to research and test drive or wait for Ford to release the new Escape this Spring. Nor did I have the time to custom order anything, even the Chevy Trailblazer I originally was looking for. Eventually, it boiled down to a Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross, Nissan Murano, or Mazda CX-50, because the CX-5 didn't sit high enough and was too curvy,, and you feel the road too much in one of those. And Hyundai is famous for dishonoring warranties, and Kia is practically a rebranded Hyundai.

I liked how well the CX-50 handled on some curvy roads, my dad had a 626 sedan back in the day and loved it, and even with an employee discount, I would've had to spend more to get a Murano or Rogue of the same luxurious caliber the CX-50 Premium Plus has even if the CVTs didn't scare me off. Yes, the lease payments would be cut in half with a Murano instead and yes, I still wish I had found my Trailblazer locally or the new Escape been available sooner, and this in part is why I leased, and didn't finance, but for my situation the CX-50 was the best value for the money.

And I still have yet to find another one on the road. So glad I didn't get a CX-5, they're too popular. But I do see Trailblazers everywhere,
Anyway, what about you?

I really liked the driving dynamics during the test drive. The CX-50 often feels like a smaller car and the handling and ride quality reminds me a lot of my old R53 Mini Cooper, just in a bigger package. The fact that I could find a CX-50 TPP also helped, as I originally wanted a CX-5 Turbo but couldn't even one to test drive. I decided on a TPP once I played around with some of the features (loving the 360 camera) and realized I'd have a hard time finding another car with similar features and driving feel at that price.

Brand reliability, looks inside and out, unlimited kilometer warranty, like a big brother to the 30 that I had owned, proximity of local dealership, better trade in value for my previous Mazda, staff at dealership, handling and power, and as you mentioned, they are not on every driveway.

I had a 2016 CX-5 that had 50k plus miles on it. It was a very reliable car and I was happy with it. I set it up to tow my dirt bike and trailer for desert runs. It did everything I needed it to do. The price was good and I am pleased with the dealership- Tustin Mazda. The resale value I felt was good as well.
I was drawn to the CX-50 Turbo
Premium for the reasons stated above for the CX-5, plus I like the look, new features and capability. I can tow more (3,500 lbs vs 2000 with CX-5). I have the all wheel drive that will get me into the local mountains for skiing in most situations. While it is a very new model, it shares the proven engine and trannie as past models. So while I normally stay away from " brand new" vehicles for a few years until there is a reliability verdict, I was comfortable with this lesser "gamble" as I view it.
I only put about 500 miles a month on it, but so far after 7 months I am really liking the vehicle. Hopefully I feel that way in three years :)

Ford priced me out of replacing my 17 Edge Titanium with a new one. Started looking at everything, came across the CX50. I liked the looks and options and the pricing. Also like that I’m unique on the road. It’s my first non American car in my 45 years of driving.
Hopefully I won’t be disappointed.

Reliability, I own a mx5 club, the look of the cx50 most suvs out are way curvy, the size and stance, and it really handles good, I have a machine gray premium plus, and mostly the dealer didn’t have the model I originally wanted made a sweet deal on the premium plus. Yes I would buy another in a heartbeat, I have 2500 miles and no problems, I guess I got lucky this was supposed to the managers but I’m a repeat customer.

Ok just got it yesterday. Never owned a Mazda before. But our Outback was 7 yrs old and the new outback was the same truck. Havnt changed much in 7 yrs. Figure they’re going to be changing it soon so buying one now just didn’t make sense. Saw this and test drove it and was impressed. Waited a month then went and test drove it again and decided to get it. The tpp was unavailable in anything but white so went with the tp. Which is fine. Though our 7 yr old Outback limited came with more options. So that’s the first negative. Been 7yrs and Mazda doesn’t include rear heated seats and a back up alarm! The back up alarm is really amazing that it’s not included. But hey it did come with cargo blocks and a retractable cargo cover:rolleyes:. So we’ll run it till the new outback comes out and see than:). Best thing I see so far is nobody has them yet. Always nice to have something no one’s got . We got the machine gray metallic. Almost the same color as my 19 STI.

Sounds like you ‘settled’ for the 50 and came here to complain about the negatives compared to your Subaru?
Odd way to greet owners at a Mazda forum.🤔

Was debating which model to buy and replace my 2012 Mazda 6. That car has had 0 issues in 200,000 miles. Went to lot to drive both the CX-30 and CX-5. Liked the ride of the 5, but also wanted the red. Walked around lot and decided to also drive the 50. About 5 miles in I far preferred its stance and drive feel. Dealer had a red 50 out back they hadn't put into inventory. Was as it came of truck that morning. He said it would take a couple of hours to go through inventory process and I told him if we worked a deal, I would take it. So 3 hours later I drove it home.

The the red is RED. Really pops in sunlight.

Wow just stating my facts! You do remind me of the Subaru forums! Ok so only great comments. Anything less and I’m bashing. Must write this down.
No I don’t think I settled for it we went out and bought it. Didn’t test drive anything else. We wanted to try a Mazda and the 50 does look the best. My comment about maybe getting the next new Outback was if this doesn’t do it for us. Sorry I insulted you by comparing.
The TPP has both rear heated seats and parking sensors as well as a 360 camera. You probably should have gotten that instead.
yes but they just didn’t have it in anything but white. And I’ve got the 360 on my Nissan and it’s not a deal breaker and neither were the others. Hey I bought it :D. Just wondering why Mazda doesn’t have these things? That’s it :).

Welcome to the forum, it’s great to have you on board here.
Please consider that when I read your post I must have mistaken your written words to mean something else.
No insult was ever taken as I am pretty hard skinned and it takes quite a bit to ruffle my feathers.
Hope you enjoy your new ride and look forward to your future input here.👍

The damn car wash made me do it!!!

All joking aside, I used to take my beater 02 Ford Escape out for a back road beat nearly every weekend. Then, I'd swing by Snap car wash to clean it up, and of course it just so happens to be located in the corner of the Mazda dealers lot. I knew I was in deep trouble that one Sunday when the dryer had stopped and I looked up to see that beautiful Zircon Sand Meridian Edition sitting in the corner!

The next Saturday I stopped in saying I'd just take it for a test drive. Next thing I know the salesman is giving me a ride back to my place so I can bring in my HHR as a 2nd trade. 3 hours later I was driving the CX-50 home.

There is a back-up alarm, its just when the blind spot detector senses something from behind. Mu brother had a Outback before he got his Crosstrek, and the tranny blew on it. $9000 repair and he practically gave it away to some mechanics. I find it strange the Premium Plus doesn't have a heated steering wheel, doesn't make sense to have heated seats but not a wheel.

Really?? It doesn’t come with a heated steering wheel! Wow. Ok still enjoying this car. But Mazda doesn’t give you much. I understand many here are loyal Mazda people. But you’re missing a lot which is considered standard in other cars. Not having a wireless phone charger in anything but the tpp is a let down. Again enjoying the car/suv/truck? What is it?

For a $41k car (non-turbo Premium Plus), it does fall short. The 2018 Chevy Cruze I had that was $26k new came with both, though I didn't find that out until two years of having it lol. You're gonna tell me that a package that is supposed to compete with entry level luxury vehicles from Volvo and Acura can't have a heated steering wheel? I think I remember the salesman telling me it was compromised for the sunroof or it was something that came in a equivalent package of the CX-5. I have mixed impressions if you ask me, both negative and positive, since quite frankly I expected more of Mazda.
