It’s your map's SD card slot. Being you have a TPP and have Mazda Navigation, your dealer should have put it in for you or given it to you at the time of purchase. Try to open your navigation in the Mazda connect menu, if you see maps, you are good. If the SD card is not there, you will see a pop-up message saying to insert the navigation SD card.
Ahh, got it. Imagine updates are sent via SD cards? Thanks for all your help. You've certainly got a wealth of information on the '50. This is ONE very cool car to drive!
You can sign up for updates to update the SD card. This car is awesome. It’s my first Mazda and definitely not my last. Glad to share what I have learned so far.

doesn't the CX-50 have a built-in owners manual like it does on my CX-30 (in the "Information" section) where you can look things up that you don't understand?
Makes it an easy reference instead of digging out the paper manual, also download a pdf copy for computer/phone/tablet from the manufacturers website. I have a copy of the CX-50 owners manual from the Mazda Canada website so I presume the US has one two.

No built-in manual in the Mazda connect car software. The MyMazda phone application has a good digital manual to reference. There is also the U.S. online manual option as well.
