Weird noise when changing gear to drive

My car makes a weird noise when put into drive, after not being used for many hours. Typically in the morning and after a 12+ hour shift. When I put my car into drive and press on the pedal, the car makes a loud noise. Kind of like if you ran over a water bottle and it popped. It kind of feel like the brakes are disengaging. Hard to explain. Has anyone had this issue?

It sounds like you're describing the electronic parking brake auto disengaging when you take the car from park to drive. People have described it as the sound of an electric drill running.
Or sometimes the the brake pads stick and make a popping sound when the the rotor moves..
This happened alot in my audi. Especially when wet outside. This has happened once in the cx 50..

Yep, just had the overnight wet brake sitting in the garage morning rust pop the other day.

It happens very often though, not just when it rains. Is there an easy fix or do I have to bring it in to the dealership?

Mine has never done it when it's dry and only did it one time in the 9 months I've owned it when they're wet. It's pretty common when you park your car with wet brakes and the emergency brake is put on. The e-brake on the 50 is automatic. There is a way to manually turn it off but it resets after every restart. If it is happening often when it is bone dry out with zero precipitation, maybe take it in for peace of mind. Do you live in a true winter environment with a lot of road grime, salt, and dirt, that can also cause it even if it's not wet out? I live in San Diego and the recent series of rain storms in the last month is the most my brakes have seen in terms of mother nature.
Yes, I live in New England. I think I will just take it in to be sure!
