U-haul trailer hitch + installation

Has anyone purchased their hitch from U-haul for the CX-50? I had my CX-5 hitch purchased and installed at u-haul at the recommendation of the dealer (it was about half the price). I had very good luck with it. My CX-50 turbo is coming in 2 weeks. U-haul offers a hitch with 4-pin installed for about $500. I only pull either utility or snowmobile trailer so I don’t need the 7 pin. Curious if anyone went this route with either success or issue?

I am trying to do the dealer option for 7 pin but it has taken 4 weeks to show up to dealer...and it still hasn't. Following thread!

Check with Curt...its more or less the samething.
I'm concerned about dealer warranty rejection because it's aftermarket hitch and harness. I'm curious if they will even install uhaul hitch and harness. The advanced towing electronics are something to consider.
Nothing to worry with for the warranty. As long no modification are made to the car you will be find. Car specific hitches and wiring harness are bolt and plug/plug and play. They wont void your warranty.

I personally would avoid uHual. I dont even trust them when they have tried to hitch up a trailer whenever I’ve rented in the past.
Mazda hitch, Mazda harness, Mazda installation = warranty assurance.
Its actually a consumers protection act… Manufactures cannot deny warranty if you installed an aftermarket hitch.
The law is an afterthought when a dealer won't warranty. It's then up to the consumer to file legal action. $$$
My bet is Uhaul uses a renamed Curt hitch….however I would be careful about a harness. Most aftermarket harnesses are universal and require splicing wires. Potential issue down road with not only the trailer lights but car as well. Mazda like most manufacturers have plugs in their car harnesses to plug their trailer harnesses into. The CX-50 Turbo has a towing driving mode that is activated when the trailer plug is plugged in. Universal trailer light harnesses may not take advantage of that driving mode, i.e. may not work….
Appreciate all the input. I found a reputable local trailer place near the dealer who said they just got the hitches in stock and in fact also do a lot of the installs for the dealers. They are $600 for parts and labor to install. I’ll spend the extra $100 over u-haul and go there.

= big bucks for Mazda. Way overpriced.
As mentioned, if it’s just bolted to the specific weld nuts warranty won’t be an issue.
Mazda just rebrands hitches from hitch manufacturers as do most companies.
Curt class 3 #13510 is what you get. $300.

I’m pretty confident Curt is one and the same. Even the wiring harness looks the same.
Hitch arrived today….2 day shipping? Wow.
Install on the weekend.
