Transmission bucking at low speed

So, yesterday evening after my wife and I finished Christmas shopping, we went to the gas station to grab some drinks on the way home. I parked, grabbed the drinks, started her back up and between 5-8 mph it felt like the transmission had a hard shift bucking the vehicle. I stopped, went again lightly feathering the gas pedal til I was at 5mph and it did it again. Almost feels like a torque converter issue. If I start from a stop and accelerate a little faster, this does not happen. We went home, parted her in the garage. This morning I went and had my hitch installed and I tried to make it do it again and it didn’t. When I arrived at my location, I tested it again in the parking lot. It did it again. Seems to only do it when it is warm. I tried turning off I-stop, auto hold was not on. It continued to do it. As soon as my goth was installed an hour later, it did not do it. I drove from there to the dealership where I tested it in their parking lot after it was warmed up again and sure enough, it did it again. I had their master tech drive with me before it cooled down and he felt it. He said definitely a transmission issue. They sent me home in a 2023 CX-9 loaner (non turbo). ((What a difference in power from my CX-50 Meridian turbo)). Hopefully they can figure it out. There was a post on Reddit that said they had the same problem and the fix was changing out the valve body and seals. See below

@ktdevil5 I also started noticing this happening (intermittently). It is mostly when I'm in stop and go traffic and lightly touch the accelerator. My CX-50 TPP has about 2,800 miles and it just started doing this in the last 500 miles or so. Let us know what they end up doing to fix yours and if they will also replace your valve body and seals....I'll probably take mine in soon for a similar fix.

Just to give another data point, mine did this as well, though it seemed more of an issue after at startup (cold or not). But I also don't do much parking lot driving. My understanding was that it was normal behavior for the 6-speed.

My car didn’t do this till now. The loaner I have doesn’t do this (same transmission) and my 2020 cx5 when I had it also didn’t do this. I don’t feel it should be normal for a car to buck at 5 mph. But that’s just me. The tech also seemed to agree it wasn’t normal.

I completely agree with you. I was just sharing what I recall reading on forums and reddit.

I’m having the same issue I thought I got some bad gas. I only experience it a low speed from time to time but more when I’m accelerating slowly in a tight turn.

Just got a call from the dealership. All fixed there is a new PCM software update. They flashed and it fixed the issue.

Just picked it up. I will say the entire shifting is a lot more smother

Good! How old is your car (build month)?

October. Fairly new

Because it is a software issue that was fixed with the update. CxMistake knows nothing about nothing.

I’m not the one stating misinformation. Again, if you don’t know about something, don’t state anything.

I’d ignore CXMistake he doesnt post constructive comments and probably never owned a 50. Who joins a forum with his title name if he had any constructive intentions. At seven months and still love my turbo…. perfect maybe not but no regrets at this point….

Yeah, CXMistake is pretty much the Yoko Ono of this forum. A little crazy, offers nothing and sticks around for too long.

Ive had a few transmission lurches right after starting ( cold engine) usually as im slowly pulling out of my garage. Seems to only happen if it happens first thing in the am. Maybe the higher idle at startup has something to to do with it?
