Tow Hitch Harness

I tried to order a 4 pin harness and hitch from Mazda Swag and website would not let me add the harness to my cart. I emailed swag and they responded that the harness is not yet available from Mazda...maybe mid-to-late October. I have seen others towing so what are they using? The 7 pin? If so what's the advantage/disadvantage?

I got the 7-pin for my CX-50 turbo, the 7-pin has a 12-volt circuit, a circuit for electric trailer brakes, and a reverse light circuit that a 4-pin does not. Just provides more versatility if you ever use a larger trailer/camper. You can also get a 7-pin to 4-pin adapter to use 4-pin trailers, so pretty much worth it to just get the 7-pin! https://a.co/d/jaa6Eui

Thanks for your reply. MSwag is still telling me the 7 pin is not available from Mazda. Where did you get yours?
I ordered mine from MazdaSwag on August 17th, but looks like it's not up there anymore.

Update, I found it on there again! I just added it to my cart and ordered, got it ina few days! VA41-V7-780 - Trailer Hitch Harness, 7-Pin - 2023 Mazda CX-50 | MazdaSwag
I just added the hitch and 7 pin to my cart and all I get is the infinitely circling arrows.
I believe the hitch itself is unavailable until May. I ordered the aftermarket hitch from Curt. That could be why you're having an issue! https://www.etrailer.com/Trailer-Hi..._H8de1bbOXqiWvJTUHpQ4vY66jlmPgVIaAh3xEALw_wcB

I also got this bracket to use for the wiring harness

I got the Mazda hitch and Mazda 4 pin harness installed by my dealer in Calgary, Alberta on 23rd August 2023. Vehicle model is GS-L (non-turbo)

I also ordered 7 pin wiring harness from Mazda Swag and then 3 days later received a note saying they didn't have the harness and it wouldn't be available until mid Oct. Oddly, when I told my Mazda dealership I could buy the harness online they said it wasn't yet available. Seems weird to advertise a part that doesn't exist, wish Mazda would get this part and others in stock.
The Mazda 7 pin harness and hitch was once definitely available here in the US--I had my dealer order both for me when I bought the car back in May, because I wanted to roll the cost into the vehicle purchase and they also gave me a special price as a result. It took ~3 weeks to receive them. The OEM accessory listing showing projected release dates also shows them both as "early May" and that means 2022. I'm assuming that the initial production run was sold out and it is taking longer to have more available, so that's why online dealers show it active as being orderable. Maybe try calling the parts department of the specific dealer you purchased your vehicle from? BTW at least the 7 pin harness (but I'd assume the same is true for the 4) is labeled as a Curt product.
Seems like there may be a supply issue... I was able to get the factory hitch and 7 pin when I bought mine at the beginning of September.

I would recommend checking with curt. Supposedly they are the ones who supply the the Mazda version of the hitch. But they have their verison in stock.

Wonder how it will work for static brakes like the ones on a boat trailer?

Work fine. On all of the previous vehicles we’ve had I always have the 7 pin socket. We have a travel trailer (with brakes), covered cargo (no brakes), and a small boat trailer (no brakes). We just use the adapter on the cargo and boat. The 7 pin sockets are a more robust socket and the terminals make a better connection.
It’s been a while since this was posted, however it seems like dealers still are not able to get the turbo 7 pin harness. They are telling me backordered until June! Has anyone else had better luck. Nothing available online either as far as my searches..Thanks
There is a Recall out for Genuine Mazda Accessory Trailer Hitch Harness (Car-Body Install).

See Recall thread,
Just confirmed with my Mazda dealer's part department, there are well over a thousand OEM hitches available nationwide, however neither harness is available yet. Just an FYI.
Great thanks for the info. A local dealer has a couple harnesses but neither they I could confirm vintage. Apparently there is an A at the end of one of two currently in system but they were not sure old or new version.
Is there an advantage to installing the harness at the time of the hitch or are they mutually exclusive? My daily need is for a bike rack but I’d like to have the wiring for the occasional light trailer use. I want to get one ASAP for upcoming bike needs and I’m with seeing if I then have to remove it or redo some of the hitch install to do the harness install at a later date.

Great question that was my plan as well originally. After checking others previous install experiences and the instructions it would appear the actual harness plug receptacle which mounts to the hitch is easier to install before the hitch is fully installed, but looks like it is possible just not clear if a little cutting is involved with plastic..

I don’t recall the price of the OEM hitches, but I paid $300 CDN for a Curt 3500# hitch delivered to my door by Fed Ex 2 days after ordering online at Truckpartsuperstore.ca. Fit like a glove.
