Tailgate operation?

Tailgate operation question. So, today I got out of the vehicle locked it and walked away. When I came back and tried to open the tail gate it would not let me be using the handle or the key fob. So I unlocked the doors and tried the button on the dash, still would not open. I turned ignition on and it worked. Am I doing something wrong?? I would think even with the doors locked as soon as I got close with the fob it would work, or at least when I unlocked the doors.

Mine opens when the vehicle is locked and I use the handle or fob button. Not sure why yours wouldn’t unless there is a setting that was changed in yours. I don’t think I adjusted that setting (if there is one) when I first got my vehicle, so mine should function the same as yours.
So it will only open when the car is running?

Just a thought…..are you pressing and holding the buttons when trying to activate?
Although the exterior release is fairly immediate the fob and interior buttons do have a bit of delay.
Otherwise….you do have an issue that your warranty will cover.

Yes, holding it firmly for a while. Problem with warranty, it does not do it all the time and I can not duplicate it at will.

Ahh, the dirty intermittent gremlin issues that we run across.
You know even if you take it in, it’s documented on the service history and there may even be
documented case similar in the system for Mazda to work from.
