My car seems to have two headlights on each side, but I've never seen the inside ones light up. I thought they'd be the high beams, but turning the highbeams just brightens (lifts) the outer pair. Are the inner ones just fake lenses? Or what am I missing?

Hmm, this is interesting. Went out and took a look at mine, hard to get a good picture, but it does appear to be a sensor of some kind, although not referenced anywhere in the owners manual.

You can go on the My Mazda app and activate them for $9.99 month. 🤣

Seriously they appear to be for aesthetics only and I don’t get it personally.

On the brightside (oops no pun intended), consider it a blessing as one less bulb to replace?

Wellllll hate to tell you but no bulbs in this car. or alot of cars being produced these days….all LED assemblies. A headlight assembly if you have the moving type……over $1000 per side…. I’m not a fan, prefer a $5 bulb by far….

Good catch. One less light emitting diode to replace would be more accurate.

Maybe it would be a good spot for some aftermarket fog lights?

Perhaps someone here has looked into the construction of the assembly area of the headlights to evaluate the possibility?

Was at the dealership today picking up the license plates and asked about this bulb/sensor/whatever and they were clueless too.
There is no bulb or sensor to speak of. At least nothing of any significance noted in the diagrams i've seen. It may just be a reflector. Perhaps it is something used for non-US vehicles?

Same deal here in Canada, nothing there but looks for aesthetics, so….since it’s only available in North America, maybe it’s a Mexican thing.🤣

Sorry, been travelling, so away from the forum... So, I took a closer look and see that, yes, it's just a dummy - a black plastic molding with a silver-painted "U" trim ring. I assume it's just for appearance's sake, but they could've just put a marker LED in there (like the CX-5 has). I thought I might modify it to insert a switchback DRL light, but looking at the shop manual, you have to remove the front bumper to get at the light assemblies and then retrain the camera and forward radar when you put the bumper back. Ugh. I've had the bumper off my CX-5 and that was relatively easy, but not this car :(

So, I'll probably just leave it be.
