For winter conditions, they are great. For dry roads, a bit to noisy. So unlike my other vehicles where I purchase winter tires and rims, I now will be doing the opposite and be in the market for summer tires and rims.

I think I may have settled on a tire size of 245/60/ 17as the are the same circumference as stock, a bit wider and more sidewall for comfort.

By going with 17” tires and rims they are less expensive. I do like the look on 20” but I feel the ride is firm enough already without going to a tire with less sidewall.

So many choices and decisions are out there any suggestions would be appreciated.

We purchased a meridian edition a few weeks ago before a long trip from Oregon to southern Calif. I wanted the 18 inch rims for the secondary roads on our trip and was initially concerned about tire noise from the Wildpeaks. We are currently 1800 miles into the trip. Road surfaces include asphalt and cement, with at least 20 percent of the roads in pretty bad shape. I am pleasantly surprised by the Wildpeaks being very quiet on good roads at speeds of 55 to 80 mph. They can be noisy over some but not all decayed pavement, depending on the spacing of the road cracks and vehicle speed. They have handled the numerous pot holes on broken cement paving very well. Compared to my VW Alltrack, VW GTI mk 4 and Hyundai Kona all with high grade Continental tires, our cx-50 with Wildpeaks are much quieter than the noisy Kona and roughly the same as our recent VW cars. Of course the Wildpeaks do not crash through the pot holes as loud as the 45 series tires on the other vehicles. The Wildpeaks tire noise is most pronounced at lower speeds over rough pavement, especially if the tire pressure is too high, since their sidewall is stiffer than most passenger tires. The cx-50 has exceeded my expectations through snow mud and highway travel.
