Hey just got our CX50 turbo. It meets our needs as a one car family, both are retired and will get us out for light camping. ( I’ve my moto in a pinch). Being a bit old school and a DIY motorhead in some ways, wish there was more info available about this vehicle, meaning the engine. Even though this car isnt a clean sheet, I suspect many tweaks were made engine wise. Seems like a big act of some kind is the only way to get a service manual, something I’ve never experienced With cars and motorcycle. Always had a service manual. There are differences I’ve noticed from the previous gen turbo motor, seems this has a twin scroll turbo in addition. ( mine is labeled a Garret A/RO.46. I like to know how things run and do my own maintainance, I don’t believe the owners manual even provides jacking points. I’ve settled on the oil I’ll run and gas, and decided against any OCC modification, given the complexity of the turbo CCV system and Mazda’s mechanisms to mitigate IVD issues. My meager pre purchase research confirms Mazda has given us a reliable long term piece here If maintained well. Gotta wait for the trailer harness they are revising, otherwise good to go. Maybe if we spend enough time “ off road” I’ll spring for an 17-18 in wheel/ tire combo I can swap out with the 20’s as needed. We’ll see. I rarely buy new cars, and usually keep them for 10 plus years, but must say this car checks all the right boxes for us. Super sporty driver, AWD and drive modes, way competent off road chops, great Rally cross looks, functional tech,( just right, not too much) amazing interior, quiet, great seating and cargo cap., among others. Just checking in looking fwd to being a member here and learning some stuff. Have a great day.

Hey @HBFL welcome to the forum and congrats on getting your CX-50! Glad to hear you're enjoying it so far. Were you considering any other SUVs before you bought yours?

I did some scrolling through the owner's manual and while it's not a full service manual, there's a service schedule that you might find helpful if you haven't seen it.

There really wasn’t much within our budget target, AWD/HP/TORQUE/Towing parameters. We looked a the Honda passport trail model, too expensive and “ van like” for us, but an awesome NA 3.5 engine. The Subaru Outback has a turbo model but a lot less torque, and not a fan of the boxer and have been some reliability issues. Also, the Honda and Subie both have the CVT and I’m a big fan of Mazda sticking with the old school 6 speed “ torque converter” tranny ( although it’s solenoid clutch operated..better). Don’t care for the Subie looks either. The CX50 crushed it with the styling while providing a powerful and responsive inline 4 with the turbo, great on road handling, decent off road chops and simple technology with drive modes and infotainment. And yeah towing capacity!
I’ve seen the maintenance schedule, my OCI’s will remain 3K miles, it’s just a habit going back to the 70,s for me, and fresh oil never hurts an engine, esp. one that’s GDI/ turbo. hey thanks for the input!
