Nav Updates?

584 Views 13 Replies 8 Participants Last post by  pedroboe
I've owned my CX-50 since April 2022, so right when they started hitting showrooms. 13 months and not a single update has been available for the in car navigation data. Has anyone gotten an update with Mazda Tool Box for their SD card?

To make it worse, the nav data that came with the 50 is from Q4 2021 and we are now in Q2 2023. 1.5 year old map data.

I used to get updates every 6 months or so when I had my 2021 Mazda 3.

I get that most people don't use the built in nav but it does feed other info to the car such as speed limits and is also nice to have as a backup if for some reason you can't use your phones navigation.

I recently had an update last month.
You're right. I must have just missed this update last time I checked. I feel like it was only a couple weeks ago but must have been a bit longer. Still odd it took so long for the first update but at least it's finally here.

I signed up for email notifications of updates too and never saw anything.

So, it took an hour to update my card and the amount of data stored on the card is now more than twice as much as before. Went from 12GB to about 32GB.

EDIT: Never mind about the data doubling. I'm an idiot and read the info wrong. lol The whole card size is 32GB. So data is still about 12GB though I have no idea why it took an hour to update the card. Seems far longer than previous times I've updated Mazda Nav.

Me too.
I have never been able to log into toolbox???
I updated using toolbox one-time last year with no issues, and after seeing this thread figured "why not try again". Just tried on my Windows 11 machine and it fails over and over again on connecting to the mother ship. Uninstall/Re-install produces the same errors. More software bugs for Mazda to work out.

I don't get it! Here are the instructions. I don't have an SD card for Nav. Did I miss something or did the dealer miss it? Toolbox? What toolbox? How/where do I find/download it?
  • Re-insert the SD card into your Mazda Connect navigation system. (where is this Nav. system located?)
Thanks all!

Mazda Update Toolbox
  1. Download the Toolbox to your computer and create an account.
  2. Eject the SD Card from your Mazda Connect navigation system and insert it into your computer.
  3. Follow the Mazda Update Toolbox on-screen instructions to update your map.
  4. Re-insert the SD card into your Mazda Connect navigation system.

Do you have nav now? If you do, you have an SD card in your center console. If you do not, you will have to buy one from Mazda.

Got it and downloaded the Mazda app on my pc, inserted the sd, and inserted into the slot in the 50! Works great!
Why not OTA?
Mazda Navigation map updates are not pushed OTA. You have to use the Mazda Toolbox application on a PC.
Okay thanks. This is not for end users, correct? Too many opportunities to brick your own car in my case 😂
