Liftgate not opening

Last night at the airport I could not load luggage. NOTHING would open the liftgate. Engine is running. All doors are unlocked. Nothing obstructing the liftgate. Three beeps is all that happens with the button on the liftgate or the button on the keyfob. Had to put suitcase on the back seat or risk getting towed. So, today, car is parked in the driveway. Unlock all the doors, walk around to the tailgate, and push the button. Three beeps is all I get. When I push the button on the liftgate, I want it to open, and I don't want to be forced to use the stupid, over-sized keyfob. What am I missing?
A call to your local Mazdas service department is in order.

Thanks, I will try that. I also thought it might be due to trying to open the liftgate before unlocking the doors. Or maybe pulling up too hard on the handle. Or maybe parking on a slight slope. So far I haven't figured out what gets it into the will-not-open mode, but the only thing that gets it out of that mode is to start the engine again. Once it's out of the will-not-open mode, it waits until luggage loading time, grocery loading time, or other similar situation to lock up again.
So the fob button will not open the lift gate?
Have you tried new batteries in the fob.
Just throwing that out there as a maybe…….

Random? When I am loaded with groceries or in an airport traffic jam trying to load suitcases and get out of the way, total lock up. But, when I want it to happen to show the service advisor, or just figure out what triggers it …. never happens? Doesn’t sound random!

Take a video with your phone next time it happens and show it to the Service Manager not a Service Writer.
Then ask him/her WTF!
