Is the CX-50 Mazda's version of a "sports wagon"?

Really enjoy driving the CX-50 with its great driving dynamics and styling. Took some side views of my polymetal gray CX-50 turbo premium, and its low roofline reminds me of a "sports wagon". What do you think?

I dont know how many people are in the same boat, but I just leased my CX-50 and I was kind of on the fence between the CX-50, V60 CC leasing new or buying used. I think the CX-50 is all SUV unlike the V60 which is really a wagon. The proportions on the side view make it look like a baby CX-9 with similar lines IMO but it really drives much better. My wifes CX-9 is a hauler but the cockpit on this thing is just so much more engaging. 100 miles in an I couldnt be happier.

Thanks for your thoughts. That’s great you got a CX-50 and enjoy driving it. I’m also having a lot of fun driving my CX-50.
To answer your question, yes, I think that is the best description for it. I'm brand new to the car (yes, I will always call it a 'car') as I just picked mine up a few days ago. My previous two vehicles were a Jeep Grand Cherokee and a Kia Sorento and the CX-50 is definitely in a completely different category from those. It doesn't look like a traditional SUV, I'd say the proportions remind me more of a Subaru Crosstrek than anything else with the low roof and high ground clearance. So yeah, Sports Wagon definitely fits!

Yep, Sports Wagon it is! I’ve always loved “station wagons”. Love this car. Nice pics and color.

Yes, this is exactly why I wanted one... in fact I will look into lowering mine to make it even more like a wagon! Coming (originally) from the UK, I've never understood why Americans reject wagons. They have the best compromise of driving like a car, but with the extra space to cart stuff.

Yeah, I agree, also like wagons. Please post some pics after you lower your CX-50, thanks

Thanks, I also like station wagons, especially "sports wagons"
I owned and loved a 2015 Volvo V60 until it was rear-ended in 2019. My CX-50 Turbo is similar in many ways, but larger feeling. The one thing that sticks out to me every time I drive it, is how flat it is through corners. Body roll is so minimal that despite being larger, it feels sportier than the Volvo. Definitely a sport wagon.

Thanks for your thoughts, I agree, the CX-50 handles very well through corners, with minimal body roll
Most people would say crossover because it’s definitely between a wagon and SUV. Sports wagon and 8.3” of clearance kinda contradict one another.
