Owned a turbo premium plus model since November of last year. Low oil pressure light came on for the first time today while towing a uhaul trailer weighing 1600lbs with stuff inside cross state lines. Also had 3 passengers and suitcases in the trunk. Dealership mechanic is saying this is normal in modern cars and topped off the oil. Hundred miles or so later, low oil pressure light. The car seems to burn quite a bit of oil when towing. When I drive normally, the car seems fine and not burn much oil, if at all. Anyone else have experience with towing?

I tow a Yamaha Grizzly 700 on a 5x10 PJ trailer with a combined weight of ~1700lbs with my CX-50 with no issues so far. I pulled the same combo with a 2016 CX-5 with no issues for nearly 4 years up mountain roads all across Montana. I then got a small Sea Ray 176 ski boat that with trailer that weighed around 2200lbs and that’s when I had issues with the CX-5. It seemed to pull it just fine, but after about 5 trips to the mountain lakes we have I t began to have small, but strange transmissions issues when I wasn’t pulling anything. It downshifted all the time when I took my foot off the gas and acted like it couldn’t decide which gear it wanted to be in. It was paid for so I traded it in for a Tacoma to pull everything, but ended up not liking driving the gas guzzling Tacoma near as much. So I bought the CX-50 and decided to just rent a truck when I want to use the boat.

How much oil were you down when the low oil pressure light came on? How far did you travel when towing before the light came on. A very small amount of oil is used initially sometimes on new engines, but not so much that you will get a low oil pressure light. As you said that it happened again after 100 miles or so, I am going to say there is an issue. That’s what warranties are for. Better now than later if that’s any consolation.
Good luck and keep us up to speed.
I am very curious because one of the reasons I traded my CX 30 in was for the possible oil gobbling some of the turbos were experiencing from exhaust valve seals failing early in the life of the engine.

I traveled a total of 370 miles. Dealership put some in (paperwork just says "topped off oil") and I put in a full 1qrt bottle. Dealership appointment within 50 miles of my new home is backed up until first week of March so I guess I will have to continue checking the oil when driving.
