Looking for your help! Need some help in making a final desicion on which one of these two I'm going to bring home. I won't go into detail on my own thoughts on each vehicle. I have test driven both. I'm just looking for your votes!

which one would you choose??
1. 23 cx5 sport design turbo in soul red. Damn gorgeous signature mazda color and that turbo! Quiet urban ninja!

or 23 cx50 Gsl package (can) non turbo. Sleek, beefier, more capable? modern, peppy naturally aspirated, but road noise, missing some options.

I am torn. The cx5 is about $4k more. These are the only two options I get my hands on within a week and I just traded my outback.

I didn’t vote. Honestly, I suspect by the way you wrote your post that you prefer the CX-5 but are hesitant to spend the extra $5k. If that is the case and you can afford the $5k, go for the CX-5.

Happy owner for 8 months, almost 6500 miles. Had one minor rattle in the center dash that I fixed with some foam. Other than that, flawless and fun as hell to drive.

IMO, get the 50. Don't let the statements of "don't get a first-year model" or "not assembled in Japan" deter you. The engine and transmission are made in Japan and have a long history of reliability in other models. Every manufacturer has its issues, no car is flawless off the line whether it is a first-year model or not. Look hard enough and read enough forums and you'll talk yourself out of any car. We, forum members, are the slim 1% who only write about issues we have and not when everything is going great. Test drive, test drive, test drive, and get the car that fits your current lifestyle and family needs.

I would definitely suggest the turbo. It does Zoom-Zoom. To my taste CX-5 is a very competent family SUV with extra bells and whistles, and CX-50 is best for those who are either at a pre-kids or a post-kids stage, and want to add some spunk and joie de vivre to their drive. I was impressed by CX-5 in a responsible adult sort of way, but it was the CX-50 that had me grinning ear-to-ear like an 18-year-old in a WRX.

CX5 is made in Japan which is huge difference.
This is such a sweeping statement. Do you have data to back this up? I am a huge fan and really appreciate well made cars. It used to be a geographical thing but these days I think location of build plays a small role. Specific to the CX-50 most what I've read and experienced are design and engineering issues. My shocks were bad from day one. This has nothing to do with the factory or the people inside it building these cars. Does the Toyota Corolla Cross (the other car built in the same plant as the CX-50) have quality issues? Are they build related or design/engineering related?

I do, however, agree with your statement that quality will improve over time and first year cars have risk.

So as the OP never responded to this thread I will assume he never bought either?
Probably driving a CVT Subaru now and regretting it.🤣
