I've got the same message on my dash now. I had a problem with a tight 3 point turn where the steering wheel jerked violently and froze up when cranking it to the right while stopped and in Drive. I couldn't move despite being in Drive, had to shift it back in Park first. Did it a second time when completing the turn though it didn't pop out of gear that time. I thought it was the iStop kicking in at the wrong time and cutting power to the steering but with the engine malfunction warning I'm not sure. Maybe it's the same problem you're having? I'm taking it in tomorrow morning, hoping it's just a software update.

Idle stop isn't supposed to activate when the steering wheel is turned over a certain amount. I'm not sure the percent/angle though.
I discovered a very loose battery cable and figure that this must be the culprit. I couldn't get any power at all to the car today so I lifted the hood and sure enough the negative cable wasn't making proper contact anymore, it was that loose.

Although I don't see anything on the paperwork I presume my last service included an update of some sort and they reset things that way? All I know is that the bolt took a lot of turns to tighten up so surely it didn't get that loose on its own. Anyways, the car runs fine now and the engine malfunction warning is gone. I'm thinking that intermittent battery power affected the electric assist steering and that's why I had that problem the day before. Still going to have the dealer look at it though, and explain why the cable was left that way.
