Wife and I got home from dinner tonight to have her attempt to open her door only to find the inside door handle is apparently no longer connected to the actuator to release it from the latch. She thought maybe she bumped the door lock but moving it back and forth didn’t help. I need to either come around the car and let her out now or she needs to roll down her window, reach out to the exterior handle and let herself out.

This after we attempted for 40 minutes to get one of our phones to connect to Apple CarPlay on the way to and from dinner with no luck has me a little sour on the CX 50 tonight.

That’s unfortunate and dangerous (the door).
It’s mechanical, things will fail. It will be covered under warranty, but your time dicking around to get it fixed isnt.
Such is ownership of vehicles, they can piss you off easily considering the price we pay.
Good luck.

Not sure, but depending on which door, there is a child safety manual lock inside the door jamb on door edge that slides back and forth to prevent a child from accidently opening door from inside. Its a small non descript slide toggle on edge of door

That’s for the rear doors only.

Facts on that or just an assumption based on a few that you are aware of?

SA confirmed when I went in. Also lots of threads on it if you do a quick Google search.
Service advisors are a odd bunch and not reliable in most of the info they pass on to customers. Lots of threads is not a number just a confirmation it has happened. 1 out of 100? 1 out of 1000?
1 out of 10,000?
Unfortunate it’s happened, but not common amongst owners here with 50 or 30 or 5.

Ours didn’t need new parts. The barrel at the end of the door pull line managed to pop out of the door handle actuator when she released the handle. The SA said he’s seen it now on 3 CX-50’s. All of them have been in colder weather. Maybe there is something about the cold that slows the line from retracting when the door handle is released. Could be something as simple as the grease in the door latch.

I’m hoping it was a fluke. He didn’t mention any service bulletins, replacement parts or anything. If it was super common I’m guessing they’d need to address it because not being able to exit the vehicle in a normal manner could potentially lead to a safety concern.

Sorry about the inconvenience but happy to hear it was a quick fix. Will have to keep this in mind should the same happen to one of our doors once the temps start falling. Thankfully, they are starting to go up around here now.
