Are PY8W-14-302 and filter 1WPY-14-302 interchangeable?

I bought filters the other day from a local dealer. I was expecting them to give me 1WPY-14-302 but now that I’m looking at them they are part number PY8W-14-302.

Application is CX-50 Turbo.

I’ll update my own post here so people have the info and it’ll show up in a search (since it didn’t when I searched). I just did my oil change and PY8W-14-302 is what was on the car from the factory which says “made in Japan” on the can.

So looks like the dealer had the Japanese made filters in stock versus the non-Japanese 1WPY-14-302.

You have found gold. I’m shocked a dealer had those in stock. Go back, buy them all up and sell them on eBay for profit.

If you Google it they seem to be readily available. One contributing factor is that the configurator doesn’t seem to show this as a fitment for CX-50T but it shows as correct for all the other turbo cars.

Yeah all the different websites selling Mazda parts say the 1WPY14-302 does not fit the CX-50 Turbo, but that is the correct filter right? Also I don't see Mazda 5W30 Oil with Moly. I used to buy the 0W20 Mazda oil for my 6, but I guess I'll just get Mobil 1 or something now with this car.

The parts sites now show that the 1WPY-14-302 does not apply to any of the ‘22 or ‘23 turbo cars but it does fit the ‘21 and older turbo cars. I compared the years for the CX-5, CX-30, Mazda3, and Mazda6.

OK but all these turbos are the same engine so this same filter should work right?

I don’t know why they dropped this filter from the ‘22 and ‘23 models. Maybe there’s a technical reason or maybe it’s some business related decision.

Could just be a superceded number.

Just want to confirm this is just a superseded Mazda Part Number and genuine part number change.
No big deal really
