The instructions are killing me, lol. Would love to chat with someone who has done this!

Thanks!

Thanks!

I'm looking over the installation instructions for the tow harness, and a lot of it makes sense (except for the rather casual use of the term "tow harness"). But I'm stumped at the "Battery Jumper Installation" section. When I pop the hood and open the fuse box, I clearly see the 22-pin connector that I'm supposed to "unplug". But it looks as though the connector is held by clips of some sort, and it's not obvious to me how they are released. What I don't want to do is break anything int the process...

Any hints on how to unplug this connector?

Marc

p.s. The rest of the instructions in this section are inscrutable to me as well, but I figure it will make more sense once the 22-pin connector is out.
Are you installing the 4 or 7-pin connector harness? And do have a Turbo?
Sorry - this is Turbo CX-50 and I'm installing the 7-pin harness.
Ok, my bad. I just installed a 4-pin on a non-T. Thought I could help. I hear ya, tho. Def don't break that connector!
Just to clear some things up The four pin factory and the seven pin factory harness installs the same both of them include a electronic control module to control the tow mode! The main difference is the connection that is made at the front of the car for power! The four pin harness has one pigtail and the 7 pin harness has two pigtails easy hookup unplug the white 22 pin wiring harness in the fuse box pigtail pin into one of the empty pin slots on the diagram! Then put the other connector onto the positive terminal near the battery tightening terminal a nut is provided in the package for that!
Thanks! Is it obvious how to remove the 22-pin connector? I don’t want to break anything. Also, there were warnings about disconnecting the battery - the wire and a sensor. Is there anything I should worry about?

Just make sure you stick the pins in the right slot disconnecting the battery is not a problem I didn't have to reset anything in my car! Just make sure the orientation of the pin is correct I use the magnifying glass to look at the connector! Very easy stuff! Much easier than purchasing a aftermarket kit and running a wire up through your car to the battery and still not have tow mode you pay for what you get!
Awesome. How does the 22-pin connector come out? That’s the piece I’m concerned about. Is there a clip?

Thanks again!
It's just a clip on that white connector you pinch that little clip up against the connector and pull up it should come out very easily! Then you turn it towards you with the little clip at the top and you'll see two empty slots which will be on your right hand side I believe the first two slots are occupied by two wires at the bottom so it's the third and the 4th empty slot if you are using the seven pin harness connector for your trailer!
Great. The written instructions leave a little something to be desired... Like they never mention connecting the 7-pin harness long end to the octopus-like harness; at least I don't see that!

Yeah I know One plug goes to the white plug behind the tail light on the driver side and the other plug goes a long the harness on the back of the tailgate to the other side passenger side where you stick the module down at the bottom per instructions plug in the harness that comes from underneath the car into the harness going to the passenger side! Make sure you remove the plug in the trunk on the right side and stick the harness connector through there from the bottom up and plug it in! I hope you purchase the factory hitch as well because it makes it easier to install the harness because there is a space for it the aftermarket does not!
Yeah, I got the Curt hitch. I suspect the harness won’t reach without some funny business. What do you think?

Your harness will reach but you'll have to find some way to fabricate a bracket to hold the plug for the seven pin connector for the trailer!

I got this…

A concern is that the harness won’t reach the mounting plate as it’s a number of inches further away from the back of the car. Thoughts?

Very nice That's exactly what you need for your hitch I will also be purchasing one of those for my wife's non-turbo CX50 I have the curt hitch on hers because she really only carries a bicycle rack on hers! Thanks for the info!
Since it sticks out a few inches beyond where the factory one sits, I was worried about the length from the the plug to the drain hole.
