Hi everyone!
New to these forums, and not sure if I’m in the right place or if this has been asked before…
We have a CX-50 Meridian Edition (we’re in Canada) and unfortunately got sideswiped by a city bus 2 days ago. We brought it into the dealership’s body shop to have an estimate done for our insurance and they basically said they don’t know when parts will be available for the car. They said anywhere from 1-6 months, and they weren’t even sure about that. Now our brand new car, that’s not even a month old yet, is sitting in our garage. It’s technically drivable, but we’ve been advised against driving it. Airbags didn’t deploy, but the entire headlight housing on our driver’s side is smashed into. Bus also ripped off our front bumper, damaged the side mirror, quarter panels etc… quite a lot of damage.
Has anyone unfortunately also been in an accident in their CX-50 and had to wait for parts? If so, how long was the wait? It sucks making payments on a car we literally got less than a month ago, that will just sit in our garage for however long. We waited about 6 months for our CX-50 and this is a huge bummer. Hope parts come in soon.

Wow, Im sorry to hear and see that. Although I really like my CX50 I think Mazda is making a fatal mistake not supporting their loyal current customers that are building the CX50 brand. Building new vehicles not supporting current base is not wise. Hopefully they monitor these forums and get their act together with supporting their products. Its critical to maintain a ongoing customer base. They design and build a great product but find their customer support line at best mediocre and it appears parts supply so so…

Sideswiped by super duty. Everything on the entire passenger side needed replacing. Took 5 weeks total, you're in Canada so I'd expect longer View attachment 647

Thanks for the reply! I actually saw your post on Reddit. Glad yours is all fixed up though, those pics hurt to look at.

Sigh, I agree. I’m seeing some posts on Reddit and the wait times for parts are not looking too good. Some are lucky and get ‘em quick, but I cannot imagine waiting 6 months with our brand new car just sitting there.

Not being able to get replacement parts when needed is a pain, hopefully they will be able to shift some from production. I have been trying to get simple accesdory parts like a tow hitch and harness and these are really hard to order as they rarely have them in the midwest distribution warehouse and usually show not order-able in the dealer system.

You can always order from BAM wholesale or Mazdaswag

Thanks Hitch is available from most places but harness is not available including these sites. A big reason I bought the CX50 and Turbo was because of increased towing of 3500 lbs but without harness I can‘t tow and was not available in production its been 5 mod now unfortunately. Still very much like the car but a big readon i bought it was for being able to tow.

Just got into an accident with our 2 month old Mazda cx 50 a week ago. A car hydroplaned, lost control and hit us head on on the freeway. We’re still waiting on ICBC to do an estimate on it and then see what the body shop tells us about the estimated wait for parts.

I’m really sorry to hear that. Hope you’re all okay! We just got the call from the body shop today saying they have most of the parts in already, which is surprisingly quick. Hope it’s quick for you too!

We’re okay, thanks. As sad as we are that the car is wrecked, we’re greatful that we were in a highly safe rated car. That’s good news about the parts being available so quickly. Thanks for letting me know. We were supposed to drive it down to California at the end of the month, but I don’t think that’s happening.

Last week a deer impaled itself on our CX50's front right quarter panel. Body shop said the last Mazda SUV they finished took four months to get the parts. It was a CX5, which is made in Japan. I'm hoping because the CX50 is made in Alabama that the parts will arrive much sooner - there shouldn't be the same supply chain issues since they hopefully won't be shipping from overseas.

If any of you have updates now that your CX50 is (hopefully) repaired, it would be great to know how long it took to get the parts.

Holy crap. Sorry to hear about your car.

WTH. The CX-5 is their bread and butter. 4 months for parts?!?! That would explain why they can’t even find part numbers on the CX-50.

Obviously nobody plans on having an accident but you at least hope in the back of your mind that if it happens you’ll be covered and back on the road within a reasonable timeframe. Would an insurance company even cover a rental for that long? I would lose my mind if this happened.

Oh no! Hope you are okay, that doesn’t look good. We have similar areas of damage although I think yours is a lot worse.
When we brought our car to our Mazda’s recommended body shop, they said it could be months before anything happens. We were surprised when they called us less than 2 weeks later saying most parts already came in. So we brought it in November 17th. They showed me the list of items, none were back ordered but 3 items were still missing.
We kept checking in for updates, and were told 9 business days for completion. They said all the parts were in but now as of January 15th, there’s supposedly a bracket on back order and they can’t put the car back together.
Very frustrating as either they lied before about having the part or just didn’t know to order the part at the beginning, I don’t know.

Our insurance company only covered the rental for about 3 weeks. We thought that it would be enough as our estimated completion was 9 business days from November 17th but we’re still waiting as of January 15th. Luckily we have a second vehicle but we’ve been without the CX-50 for quite some time now, and only had the car for 27 days before the accident happened.

Geez. That’s really unfortunate. Hope you get it sorted out and back in your car soon. Seems like there should be some sort of addition to lemon laws related to the availability of parts necessary for common repairs and collisions. Collisions are not an uncommon occurrence unfortunately and someone spending $40k on a vehicle still covered by a warranty should have confidence that should an accident occur, they won’t be facing a situation where they can’t get resume their normal daily routine. Like driving to work.

Yeah, there should be! So many people waiting for months without their vehicles and don’t know when their parts are coming in.
